(Enacted) Ohio Senate Bill 216 - School Regulations

To enact the "Ohio Public School Deregulation Act" regarding the administration of preschool and primary and secondary education programs.

SUMMARY:

  • Changes training requirements for restraint and seculsion;
  • Changes requirements regarding nonteaching employees in federally funded programs;
  • Changes requirements for long-term substitutes;
  • Removes requirements for qualified professionals to provide special education services;
  • Removes requirement that excused absences be counted to determine excessive absences; and
  • Decreases the amount of hours required for a student to be served by a center-based teacher

  • Submitted a letter to Senator Huffman on December 5, 2017
  • Provided Interested Party testimony to the Senate Education Committee on December 13, 2017
  • Provided Interested Party testimony to the House Education and Career Readiness Committee on May 23, 2018
