Study suggests widespread abuse among children with disabilities

July 13, 2012

Disability Scoop reported on a global study about the incidence of violence against children with disabilities. The findings showed that children with disabilities are four times more likely than those without disabilities to be victims of violence, such as physical, sexual, emotional abuse, and neglect. Researchers reviewed data spanning two decades of incidents among over 18,000 children. Since the data was limited to the countries of the United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland, Spain and Israel, chances are that the number of children with disabilities victimized by acts of violence is much more.
