Summer cooling assistance ends August 31st

August 21, 2012

Need help with summer cooling bills? Consider applying for the HEAP Summer Crisis Program of the Ohio Department of Development (DOD). The program, which ends on August 31, provides eligible households with a one-time $250 benefit. The $250 is either paid directly to the utility company or is provided in a voucher to purchase a fan or air conditioning unit.

Eligible households are those below 200% of the federal poverty level with a member age 60 years or older, or households with a member who can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed due to health issues. Households facing disconnection of electric service or have already been disconnected may also be eligible. Applicants must go to their local community action agency to apply.
