LRS presents at The Arc of Ohio legislative advocacy event
Representatives from LRS presented at The Arc of Ohio's annual legislative advocacy training event on the rights of people with disabilities related to funding level assessments under the Individual Options (IO) waiver, eligibility for services through a county board of developmental disabilities, and natural supports. More specifically, Ohio Eligibility Determination Instrument (OEDI), Children's Ohio Eligibility Determination Instrument (COEDI), the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Profile, Individual Service Plan (ISP) process, and the prior authorization process were covered during the presentation.
Another topic covered by LRS was the current reliance on institutional care and the difficulties experienced by people with developmental disabilities to obtain the services they need to live in the community, particularly enrollment on the IO waiver which has long and slow waiting lists. Materials related to the presentation soon will be posted to the LRS website.
Materials referenced during LRS' presentation included
- In the Matter of: Kristina Mocznianski, by next friend Terrence Mocznianski, Appellant v. Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Appellee (PDF file) (Court decision holding that a county board's arbitrary allocation of "natural support" was improper)
- DODD - Training and Registration - OEDI and COEDI information (OEDI and COEDI materials are near the bottom of that web page)
- Ohio Developmental Disabilities Profile (ODDP) form (PDF file)
- Waiver Comparison Chart - November 2011 (PDF file)
The theme of this year's event was "Knowledge is Power." Topics covered by other presenters included a call to advocacy by The Arc of Ohio on major changes in how children and adults with disabilities are supported and educated. The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) also provided information about different waiver options and spoke on quality assurance processes.
