"My main goal the whole time was to get back to work, and here I am."

November 18, 2016 / Employment

Army veteran, Lisa, contacted Disability Rights Ohio when her service dog, Beau, was banned from the Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA) hospital where her employer's office was located. Beau is trained to help Lisa with everything from providing balance to retrieving help if Lisa were to fall. Without Beau, Lisa could not safely fulfill her job duties and could no longer come to work.

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to work. We advocated to the VA to protect Lisa's employment rights. And when that was unsuccessful, we took her case to the courts.

That worked - and, thankfully, now so do Lisa and Beau.

Successful employment offers individuals with disabilities independence, and the opportunity to be more fully integrated in their communities. Disability Rights Ohio continues to advocate for Ohioans with disabilities to have access to meaningful employment opportunities.

We invite you to consider supporting this critical work with a charitable donation. All contributions to Disability Rights Ohio are tax deductible.

We have the legal right of way, and with your support, we can fight for more Ohioans with disabilities whose access to employment is restricted, or worse, denied. With your partnership, we can help to heal the wounds inflicted by prejudice, ignorance, and intolerance. Together, with your investment, we can meet the needs and heal the hurt of those for whom we fight.

Thank you for joining us in this work.

Sincerely,

Michael Kirkman
Executive Director
