Accessible drug label bill passes House
June 24, 2012
The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act. Included in the Act is a provision to provide accessible prescription drug labeling for customers with vision loss. The President is expected to sign the bill into law once the House-passed version of the bill is formally endorsed by the Senate.
According to an alert sent by the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), "Once enacted, these provisions will serve as a valuable supplement to existing requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act and other federal and state laws imposing obligations on pharmacies to ensure effective communication and barrier removal for people with disabilities."
