VA expands clothing allowance for veterans with certain types of disabilities

November 21, 2011

Veterans with multiple prosthetic and orthopedic devices or who use prescription medications for service-connected skin conditions will be able to apply for more than one annual clothing allowance. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) published a final regulation that includes the criteria for this change which provides the allowance in situations where distinct garments are affected, and ensures veterans are adequately compensated for any damage to clothing. In the past, only one allowance was permitted per year.
