Report shows dramatic increase in mental health issues and the use of psychotropic drugs for treatment in service members

Nextgov highlights a report from the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center that states that mental health disorders stood out as the leading cause of hospitalization of active-duty service members in 2007, 2009 and 2011. In addition, a Nextgov investigation showed that the use of psychotropic drugs to treat mental illness and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has sky rocketed despite evidence that this class of drugs actually makes PTSD symptoms worse.
