Voter Alert: Absentee ballot information for August Special Election

Ohio's Special Election is Tuesday, August 7, 2012. Voters in 36 counties will head to the polls to decide on local issues. The following are deadline dates and other information for those who choose to vote by absentee ballot.

  • Absentee ballot requests must be received by county boards of elections no later than noon on August 4, 2012. Request a form from the Secretary of State's website: Absentee Ballot Request.
  • Boards will mail out absentee ballots beginning July 3, 2012, to those who have requested them. Completed ballots must be postmarked the day before Election Day and received no later than the 10th day after the election (August 17, 2012).
  • Absentee ballots may also be delivered in person to boards of elections (not polling locations) no later than the close of the polls on Election Day.
  • In-person absentee voting begins July 3, 2012, or 35 days before the election, and runs through 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012. Locations and regular business hours for in-person absentee voting vary from county to county and voters are encouraged to check with their county boards of elections for more specific details.
