Intake and Short-Term Assistance

The ability of clients to reach the agency and to have prompt and appropriate responses to their rights concerns is critical to Disability Rights Ohio's mission of protection and advocacy of rights. The current intake department, including a resource attorney and a special education advocate, includes individuals who are trained and knowledgeable about the issues affecting Ohioans with disabilities. Disability Rights Ohio will ensure that its intake department can provide short-term assistance in a range of areas of disability rights to ensure that clients who call Disability Rights Ohio receive services to address their issue.

In FY 2013, Disability Rights Ohio will:

  • ensure that intake specialists are familiar with the rights of people hospitalized against their will in state and private hospitals, and work to support those individuals as they process internal grievances.
  • develop broad reaching referral networks so that clients who cannot receive direct representation from Disability Rights Ohio can be directed to others.
  • expand on protocols with other advocacy groups to ensure that they are supported in their work and have prompt access to Disability Rights Ohio services for clients they are working with.
