Disability Rights Ohio creates FAQ for Senate Bill 43

March 22, 2013 / involuntary commitment

Senate Bill 43 (SB 43) is a legislative measure that would amend Ohio’s involuntary commitment laws by expanding the use of involuntary commitment and assisted outpatient treatment for individuals with mental illness. The legislation appears to modify the established legal standard that a court find “evidence of behavior that creates a grave and imminent risk to others or the person” and replaces it with a focus on medication and treatment compliance. In response to many questions and concerns expressed by clients and other stakeholders, Disability Rights Ohio developed an FAQ to provide more information about the bill.
