#AdvocacyMatters: Catching a Break

February 6, 2026 / #AdvocacyMatters

At this point in most Ohio winters, we find ourselves ready to take a break. Sure the snow has been pretty - and kids have enjoyed some unexpected time off of school – but it’s time for a change. Lingering snow presents additional mobility concerns for folks on ramps, stairs, and sidewalks, and hazardous conditions with dangerously-cold temperatures can interrupt routine healthcare and basic service needs.

Fear not, friends, because we have good news: After what has felt like an eternity in the cold, temperatures in most of Ohio should rise above freezing today. Even better, temperatures across the state next week are forecast to go even warmer.

To celebrate, we’re asking all our supporters who are able to make a donation to DRO that matches the high temperature in their area. While a $34 donation for 34° might not seem like very much, half of our supporters doing so could represent a historic investment in our work.

If you’re even more excited about warmer weather coming, you can donate the temperature you’re looking forward to the most. Remember, it can get well over 100° in Ohio in the summer!

No matter how much you give, this additional income is pivotal in helping us secure matching grant dollars… allowing us to amplify our reach, expand our work, and react in real-time to the issues facing Ohioans with disabilities each and every day.

Investing in our work is easy: Just go to www.disabilityrightsohio.org/donate and click on the pink “Give Now” button. From there you can choose between making a one-time or monthly gift, and type in any amount you’d like to donate.

You can also join our team in an even bigger way by hosting a Facebook fundraiser benefitting DRO. All you have to do is click the link below, set a goal amount, and share with your friends and family: Make sure they know why supporting our work is important to you. No matter how you choose to support our work, we are so grateful to have you behind us.
