#AdvocacyMatters: Our Story

Every day, our team works to bring our vision closer to reality in advocacy and action all across Ohio. This work is bigger and broader than could ever be captured in words. However, the words that we use and the ways we describe ourselves matter.

Last summer, members of DRO’s Board of Directors asked a very simple question: How can we best describe our mission?

Our Board of Directors in a diverse group of individuals from all across the state with real, lived experiences as individuals with disabilities, family members of individuals with disabilities, and professionals. These unique perspectives helped bring into focus a better, clearer snapshot of what we do:

Empowering people with disabilities to advance rights, access, and equity.

This new mission statement isn’t just meant to be printed on pamphlets and emblazoned onto banners. It will become the center of our story, the north star of our advancement, and the core of our advocacy.

Words are powerful, and words backed by passion for justice and intent towards equity can do amazing things.
