#AdvocacyMatters: The Story of Our Work
June 28, 2024 / #AdvocacyMatters
At the core of what we do – in our work all across Ohio – two themes are run throughout: Equity and Empowerment. Equity is at the center of our mission to advocate for an equitable Ohio for people with disabilities. Empowerment is the movement within our vision: Voices Elevated. People Empowered. Equity Achieved.
Earlier this week, we released Equity & Empowerment: our 2023 Annual Report. This report highlights the stories and success from across of our organization, all rooted in our shared belief of Equity & Empowerment.
In 2023 our work and advocacy reached 86 of Ohio’s 88 counties, with more than 3,200 calls for service received. Our Abuse and Neglect team performed investigation and monitoring activities in 70 facilities. We reached into our communities to perform more than 94 different outreach efforts and continued to expand translations of our materials into new languages.
“Voices Elevated. People Empowered. Equity Achieved. In late 2022, we adopted these powerful words as the guiding vision statement for our organization. 2023 marked the first full year under this rallying cry, and its impact is impossible to ignore,” President & CEO Kerstin Sjoberg reflects in the report. “Though complex in practice, the motivation for our work is simple: Advocating for an equitable Ohio for people with disabilities.”
We’re excited to share these stories with you, and look forward to what’s awaiting us in the year ahead.
