#AdvocacyMatters: Advancing the Discussion
July 17, 2026 / #AdvocacyMatters
Our advocacy takes on many forms and travels through many mediums to reach its full potential. Each message and every discussion on all of our platforms and channels help to broaden our reach and strengthen our work.
This past weekend we were honored to participate in the Dayton Metro Library’s first-ever Disability Symposium, presenting alongside Kettering Behavioral Health and the Ohio Deaf Friends of the Library. Scheduled in July to coincide with Disability Pride Month and the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, this event brought advocates, experts, and providers together for a day of learning and understanding.
DRO Associate Advocacy Director and Abuse & Neglect Team Leader Amy Price was joined by DRO Board Members Georgie Elson and Amelia Whorton to share more about our organization and our work, along with the lived experiences of our board members. Together they presented a comprehensive look at our organization and our work, followed by our board members sharing their personal advocacy stories that brought them to their positions today.
“It was a great experience to present at the Disability Pride Symposium,” DRO’s Amy Price reflected. “We thank the Dayton Metro Library for hosting this inaugural event and inviting us to collaborate. We hope more communities will follow the library’s innovative initiative to facilitate these discussions, increasing awareness and advancing equity throughout our state.”
“I was deeply moved by the presentation,” said Kristie Wilson, Community Impact Specialist – Wellness for the Dayton Metro Library “Each presenter did a fantastic job and delivered powerful information to those attending.”
Being able to share our mission and vision with a new audience - and increasing awareness of our work to those who may need our advocacy – are critical components of maximizing our impact.
