#AdvocacyMatters: Resources and Community
August 1, 2025 / #AdvocacyMatters
This past Tuesday, we held our first of six free webinars in our Summer Education and Employment Training Series, hosted by our amazing DRO staff.
These training sessions are meant to help encourage learning and foster community for our students with disabilities in Ohio and the loved ones that care for them while connecting them with important information and resources as we move into the new school year and beyond.
Tammie Sebastian, Special Education Advocate, has this to say regarding the first training:
“The MDR training reinforced how critical it is to ensure students with disabilities are not improperly removed from school. This summer training series has been insightful, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming sessions and the conversations they will bring!”
There’s still plenty of time to register for the remaining trainings, with many important topics. The schedule is as follows:
- August 5 - IEP Basics, Advocacy, and Back to School Tips
- August 12 - Social Security for Transition-Aged Youth
- August 19 - Your Rights under the ADA
- August 26 - What is CAP?
- September 2 - Dispute Resolution in Special Education
Signing up once will put you on our zoom system for all the training sessions, so you are free to join any of the trainings that meet your needs and interests. Even if you don’t have a child in school or transitioning to work, these trainings are a valuable foundation for any Ohioan who cares about people with disabilities.
We hope you’ll join us for the remaining trainings through September. Who knows? You might just find some much needed community while you learn something new.
