#AdvocacyMatters: Smooth Sailing

November 6, 2026 / #AdvocacyMatters

Election Day is always a big day. Here at DRO, we divide and conquer, with a large amount of our staff running our Voter Hotline, others surveying polling locations, or monitoring social media. Our entire team turns their heads to Election Day, and we always hope for no issues for disabled Ohioans.

This year, we had a very successful Voter Hotline. On the day before polls opened, three callers were able to secure their voting plan with our help. Over the course of Election Day, we received calls with a variety of issues including helping a hospitalized voter, reporting a denial of reasonable accommodations to the local Board of Elections, and securing paratransit transportation to the polls.

Overall, things seemed to operate smoothly at the polls for Ohioans with disabilities, and we are grateful that Ohio voters didn’t report any serious systemic barriers.

Julie Keys, Attorney Team Leader, had this to say about the Election. “We are so grateful for our staff who participated in this important day. Ensuring disabled Ohioans can access their right to vote is one of the most vital pieces of our work, and we were excited to see mostly smooth sailing.”
